Kitchell

Kitchell’s AZYouthforce participants will have a robust experience that will give a sense of what is possible with a future in the commercial construction industry. You will be assigned to project teams working on projects in healthcare, fleet services and equipment.

Specific functions within the job descriptions:

Project Interns

Work in a fast-paced environment with job teams encompassing a wide range of positions and experience. These projects are high-profile and important to the fabric of the communities. They are among the largest healthcare construction projects currently underway in the Valley.

Valleywise Medical Center jobsite – 2601 E. Roosevelt, Phoenix

Phoenix Children’s Hospital/Avondale – 1665 N. Avondale Blvd., Avondale

Exposure to Lean construction material types
Carry and load materials for use on-site
Learn about and gain exposure to a variety of tools and equipment
Maintain job-specific tools and equipment as needed
Help with general project site clean-up
Learn job safety requirements for all phases of construction
Introduction to all phases of the construction process
Interact with a variety of trade partners, including understanding how a general contractor manages trades
Exposure to various aspects of field work: painting, carpentry, masonry, steel erection, concrete and framing

Equipment Yard Intern

Our Equipment Yard team is critical to the success of our jobs, and team members are exposed to a wide range of projects, people and services. A strong commitment to customer service is essential.

Observance of all safety measures
Prep yard for start & close of business
Keep all equipment inventories up to date with status for reuse
Assist loading & unloading equipment as yard flow dictates
As equipment returns, notify equipment yard foreman of conditions of damage, or unserviceableness
Stage returned equipment for T/A or repair & wash equipment
Move equipment to front or stage for next use after washed & T/A
Keep equipment yard area clean & organized (moving equipment and/or vehicles)
Assist with the delivering and pick up of equipment to and from jobsites
Report directly to Equipment Yard Foreman
Ensure equipment meets company quality standards of cleanliness
Minor repairs and light servicing of equipment
Other duties as assigned

Kitchell Fleet Services

Kitchell Fleet Services maintains commercial vehicles of many high-profile local businesses and privately owned vehicles. They benefit from a great reputation and repeat business from customers who walk in the door and are known by first name. The team is close-knit and committed to a high level of customer service.

Use your education to work on commercial trucks and cars
Assist with performing inspections and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment
Assist with diagnosing, rebuilds, repairs and replacing parts in vehicles and equipment
Assist with tuning automotive vehicle engines to ensure efficient operations
Assist with preparing and maintaining records and reports of repairs made, work orders and time worked
Assist other technicians as needed
Other duties as assigned

Bank of America

Bank of America is an American multinational investment bank and financial services company. They have a strong internship program; we are lucky to offer this internship every summer.

Pay: $23 an hour
Where: (In-person) Multiple locations; Intern can typically be placed at a location that is convenient for them.
When: End of June to the beginning of August. Interns will work 30 hours a week Monday – Friday from about 9:30AM – 4PM. This internship is about 7 weeks long and interns must be available all 7 weeks no exceptions. (If they have a vacation scheduled during this time, this internship will not work for them.)

  - - Be prepared for in-demand jobs such as: Technical Support Specialist, IT Help Desk, Computer Support Specialist, IT Manager, IT Administrator, Network Administrator, etc.

- Google Data Analytics Certificate is designed to prepare learners for roles in data analytics. Graduates will:
  - - Have working knowledge of essential data analysis platforms (Excel, SQL, Tableau, R) and when to use them in the data lifecycle.
  - - Understand how to translate a business question into a data analysis exercise, including transforming, visualizing, and modeling data.
  - - Know how to distill findings into actionable takeaways.
  - - Have a capstone project completed, to be shared on their resume.
  - - Be prepared for in-demand jobs such as: Junior Data Analyst, Finance Analyst, Data Technician, Business Performance Analyst, Marketing Analyst, Healthcare Analyst, Data Specialist, SQL Server Database Administrator, etc.

- Google Project Management Certificate is designed to prepare learners for roles in project management. Graduates will:
  - - Know how to manage and run agile and traditional projects and programs from initiation to completion.
  - - Possess a toolbox of templates and artifacts to manage an array of scenarios and essential elements (e.g. schedules, budgets, product requirements, etc.).
  - - Understand organizational structure, business process and acumen, and communication and leadership styles.
  - - Be prepared for in-demand jobs such as: Project Manager, Program Manager, Project Coordinator, Operations Manager, Supply Chain Project Manager, Project Management Analyst, Administrative Manager, Process Manager, Compliance Manager, etc.

- Google User Experience Design Certificate is designed to prepare learners for roles in user experience (UX) Design. Graduates will:
  - - Have a portfolio including 3+ projects.
  - - Dive into working in Figma and Adobe XD – two of the most in-demand tools by employers.
  - - Know core concepts key to all UX design jobs (e.g. usability studies, design sprints, accessibility).
  - - Grasp the basics of UX research and how it informs design.
  - - Be prepared for in-demand jobs such as: User Experience (UX) Designer, User Interface (UI) Designer, Web Designer, E-commerce Web Designer, User Experience (UX) Researcher, Product Designer, Industrial Designer, Graphic Designer, etc.

This program that provides young adults with the first jobs, mentoring, skills and confidence they need to make their dreams a reality by partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs and local Old Navy stores. AZYouthforce offers teens 16+:

Safelite Autoglass

Autoglass is a booming industry – and AZYouthforce wants to show you the ropes!

Intern at Safelite as a Technician Trainee for 8 weeks. It’s your first step to becoming a qualified technician. You’ll collaborate with technicians and trainers to install autoglass, maintain accurate and complete work records, and even perform autoglass repairs! It’s a whole lot of learning… and a whole lot of fun.

Bayless Entrepreneurship Program

AZYouthforce is excited to launch a brand-new Bayless Entrepreneurship Program, thanks to funding from a generous donor!

This internship is a great fit for teens who:

Want to start your own business
Think outside the box
Have no experience

Based on a Learn-to-Earn model, youth will:

Attend weekly Saturday sessions for six weeks
Be paid for your time in the program (after completing 20-30 hours of our Academy).
Be matched with a business mentor
- The business mentor will help you prepare for the final stage of the internship, a pitch contest.
Pitch for seed money to start your own business.
The winner of the contest will receive $2,500!

Diversified Roofing

Want to jump into the business side of construction?

Diversified Roofing is a great place to start! Interns will spend 8 weeks as a Construction Roofing Estimator in the office. This role gets to do it all, from building digital job files to capturing contracts to looking over roof drawings and details. It’s a great foot in the door with a local business and a rewarding, profitable career. While this internship won’t take place on construction sites, students will gain valuable insight into the essential behind-the-scenes work of the roofing profession. PHX Arena

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley is partnering with the PHX Arena (formerly Footprint Center) to offer paid internships for teens age 16 to 21.

Pay: $14.70 an hour
Where: In Person at FootPrint Center (475 E Lincoln St Phx. AZ 85004)
When: FootPrint Center Internship is a year-round internship.
Extra info: Interns will work 5 to 6 hours per day, from Monday to Friday, and on weekends. Start times can vary based on the events scheduled at the arena. The internship lasts approximately 4 months. After completing the internship, interns will have the opportunity to interview for a lead intern (junior manager) position, which can extend their internship by an additional 4 months.

Following completion of the AZYF Academy, the teens will staff games supporting arena operations to enhance guest experiences at the Arena during Phoenix Suns & Phoenix Mercury basketball games, concerts, and other events.

Haskins Electric

Haskins Electric has been offering electrical solutions to the Valley for over 20 years. They’re excited to be working with BGCAZ to bring electrical internships to Valley teens over the age of 18.

Following completion of the AZYF Academy, interns will work as Electrician Helpers. Electrician Helpers assist electricians at commercial and residential electrical sites. Interns will learn the basics of tasks such as hanging fixtures, pulling circuits, and installing wiring.

Interns with Haskins Electric have the potential to be offered employment, if the internship is a good fit.

Jiffy Lube

Jiffy Lube and BGCAZ have partnered to create an internship experience for teens interested in the automotive field.

Following completion of the AZYF Academy, interns will work as Courtesy Techs or Lube Technicians. Courtesy Techs are responsible for automatic and manual transmission vehicles, greeting customers, writing up work orders, and performing basic automotive services such as cleaning windows, inflating tires, and vacuuming vehicles. Lube Technicians perform all the functions of a Courtesy Tech, with the addition of oil changes, explaining services and products to customers, and other various fluid fills and filter changes.
